Hamas: Rice's statements reflect American hostility to Palestinians and Arabs

GAZA, (PIC)-- Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman strongly denounced statements made by US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice on Wednesday that Washington considers the Hamas-run Gaza Strip a "hostile entity" after Israel made a similar declaration, saying that such statements reflect the American hostility to the Palestinian people and the Arab nation.

"Such statements by the American secretary of state on considering Hamas as a "hostile entity" provide cover for the Israeli occupation to continue and escalate its crimes against our Palestinian people and reflect the nature of the American role which is supportive of these crimes," Abu Zuhri stated in a press release received by the PIC.

He added: "At a time when the American administration believes it has the right to classify the resistance forces especially Hamas as terrorist and hostile entities, the Palestinian and Arab nations also have the right to classify the American Administration along with the [Israeli] occupation as their major enemy."

Earlier, Israel's war cabinet had declared the Hamas-run Gaza Strip a "hostile entity," paving the way for further economic sanctions and possibly a massive invasion of the Strip.

Hamas called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and condemn the Zio-American hostile statement against the Palestinian people in Gaza and to pressure the American administration and Israel to back down from such statements, especially since this affects the basic daily needs of Gaza people, thus foreshadowing a human catastrophe in all aspects of life.

For his part, Ban Ki-Moon, the secretary-general of UN, expressed deep concern on Wednesday about the decision of the IOA to consider the Gaza Strip as a "hostile entity" and its intentions to suspend basic utilities such as electricity and fuel, warning that such a step would be contrary to the Israeli obligations towards the civilian population stipulated by the international human rights law.
